People Stories
As an Employee Communications Specialist, I started a story series called “Living the Values.” Its purpose was twofold: 1. help humanize the company core values, and 2. recognizing employees for their actions.
There was a good deal of flexibility when writing these stories. Each story could reflect one or many of the core values. A story could also be about a single person or an entire team.
The following three samples are excerpts from my favorite stories. Full stories are available upon request.

To say Dave, Agile, has a different perspective on life would be an understatement. What others take for granted, he views it as a gift. “I wasn’t supposed to be here,” explains Dave. “Nobody believed I would live, let alone stand, or hold a career.” In fact, it’s this perspective that has helped Dave be so successful in his career. Because he has to do things differently than others, he’s had to learn to be efficient and figure out how to streamline his processes. “I use that same kind of approach and rational when I work with groups to help them become more productive,” says Dave…

On November 4, 2014, Mark, Services, experienced a frightening event that made him come to the conclusion that something needed to change in his life. She was up at 4:00 a.m., arrived at the church with treats for fellow volunteers by 5:00 a.m., and settled in with the plan to be there until the polls closed at 8:00 p.m. However, Sandy’s heart had other plans for her. At 12:00 p.m., she entered full cardiac arrest…

Highlight Social Media Posts
As a Visual Information Specialist with the Department of Veterans Affairs, part of my job was to highlight activities happening around the Minneapolis Hospital. That included social media posts and stories that went out on the website. It’s incredible to see the activities that happen weekly in that facility.
